What is a Baptist?

- Biblical Authority
The Bible is our “Sole” authority. This means that it is the “ONLY” authority for all that we believe. We do not get our beliefs and doctrines from men and from their experiences, but rather from the King James Bible. Isaiah 8:20; II Tim 3:15 -17; Acts 17:11; II Peter 1:19; Matt.22:29

A - Autonomy of the Local Church
We believe that each church is to be self-governing and not to have another church or denomination over it. The Book of Acts & Rev.2:6,15

P - Priesthood of the Believer
Each born again individual has the privilege through Christ to go directly to the Father in prayer. We do not believe that a person has to go to a priest to confess sin. Jesus is the High Priest and each believer is a priest in and through Christ. I Peter 2:5,9; I Tim 2:5,6; Hebrews 10:19-25; Heb.4:14-16

T - Two Ordinances
We do not use the word sacrament, because that is a religious word used to define something that must be done as part of a process of earning salvation. We believe salvation is received through faith when one puts his trust in Jesus Christ as Saviour. Then, in obedience to the Lord there are 2 ordinances to obey after salvation. They are the Lord’s Supper and Baptism. The Lord’s Supper is a time to remember in a more solemn way the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Baptism is a public testimony of the fact that the one being baptized has already received Christ as his/her Saviour and is letting everyone know that they are not ashamed of Jesus. It is also an identification with the local church.
Matthew 28:19,20; Acts 2:41-47; Acts 10:47-48; I Corinthians 11

- Inspiration and Preservation of the Scripture
We believe that by Inspiration the Holy Spirit moved upon men to put the Word of God in a form for man to read. God was in charge and he gave his Word and it was perfect. By preservation, we believe that the Holy Spirit has moved upon men to take the Word of God in its pure form to other languages. This is the process whereby God keeps His Word pure from generation to generation, from language to language. The Bible did not come to man in pure form because of man, and it has not been preserved into other languages by the knowledge and skill of man. It is pure and is kept pure in any language by God alone! Psalm 12:6,7; II Peter 1:21; II Tim 3:15-17

Individual Soul Liberty – Every man and woman must choose personally to come to Christ. Romans 10:17; Romans 14:1-8; Romans 14:12-23

- Separation From the World
We believe in Personal and Ecclesiastical separation, meaning as individuals and also as a functioning church, a body of believers.  We believe there are some things that we cannot do, and places we cannot go, etc. As well as, there are things we must do, and places we must go. We are to follow Christ and be like Him. This automatically separates us from the world.
1 John 2:15-16, 1 John 3:13

Security of the Believer - Salvation is a gift from God that cannot be taken away. When a person is saved, he is always saved. Nothing can separate him from eternal life in Christ and he can live with full assurance of Heaven as his future home. John 10:27,28; I Peter 1:3-5; I John 5:13

T - Two Offices Within The Church
We believe that the two offices of leadership in the Local Church are the Pastor and the Deacons. Both of these have qualifications in the scripture that are carefully laid out. Acts 6:1-7; I Timothy 3:1-13; Titus 1:6-9; I Peter 5:1-4

S - Soul Winning
We do not believe it is possible to be a Baptist Church and not be a soul winning church. Remember the B, of Baptists stands for Biblical Authority. The Bible makes it clear, in multitudes of places, that the Lord Jesus wants every believer to not be “… ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God
unto salvation to everyone that believeth…” The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” Proverbs 11:30; Mathew 4:19; Matthew 28:19,20; Mark 16:15; Romans 1:16
