Are You Passing The Test?

A test is something used to measure skill, knowledge, or ability. Students take tests to evaluate what they’ve learned. Without testing, it would be difficult to know if progress is being made. Soldiers are tested through the rigor of boot camp. In every area of life, testing reveals reality.
In this series, we’re asking: Am I Christ-like? If we truly desire to be like Christ, we must evaluate ourselves by the standard given in the Gospels.
EVERY MAN IS TEMPTED
Consider how Jesus endured testing. His temptation was not the result of wrongdoing; it was part of His earthly ministry. Temptation doesn’t only come when you’re doing wrong—it comes whether you’re doing right or wrong.
James 1:13 reminds us, “But every man is tempted…” and Matthew 4:1 says Jesus was “led up of the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted of the devil.” Temptation is unavoidable. It is a test we all face. It is a proving ground for our determination, spiritual growth, and heart for God.
THE LUST OF THE FLESH
The first temptation Jesus faced was physical hunger. After fasting for forty days, He was extremely hungry. The devil tempted Him to turn stones into bread—something Jesus was fully capable of doing.
Satan knew both His power and His humanity. Likewise, he knows our weaknesses. For some, it’s food. For others, it’s substances, alcohol, or immorality. We’ve all faced these struggles, and we’ve all failed at times.
The question is: how are you doing in this test right now?
THE PRIDE OF LIFE
Next, Satan tempted Jesus to make a spectacle of Himself by casting Himself from the temple. Yet Philippians 2 shows us that Christ came in humility. He didn’t come to establish an earthly kingdom or draw attention to Himself.
If He had wanted fame, He wouldn’t have been born in Bethlehem, raised in Nazareth, or lived as a humble servant. His mission was clear—He came for Calvary.
Though Jesus deserved all glory, He refused anything that didn’t align with His purpose. In a culture driven by attention, recognition, and self-promotion, His example challenges us deeply. The One who deserved the spotlight refused it.
The question is: how are you doing in this test right now?
THE LUST OF THE EYES
Finally, Satan showed Jesus all the kingdoms of the world and offered them in exchange for worship. “All these things will I give thee, if thou wilt fall down and worship me” (Matthew 4:9).
It almost seems absurd. Yet the temptation was real.
Jesus didn’t allow what He saw to pull His heart away from His mission. He wasn’t focused on possessions but on people.
Today, distractions are everywhere—ads, social media, comparison, and constant exposure to what others have. It’s easy to lose focus.
The question is: how are you doing in this test right now?
A WARRIOR OF THE WORD
Jesus responded to every temptation the same way—with Scripture. His victory came through the Word of God. Psalm 119:11 says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
If we want victory in testing, we must follow the same path. That means more than hearing Scripture occasionally. It means daily time in God’s Word—reading it, meditating on it, memorizing it, and obeying it. Victory doesn’t come from willpower alone. It comes from being grounded in truth.
So the question remains: Are you Christ-like in your testing?
